IMPORTANT NOTICE - This morning a woman threw herself from a moving taxi in front of the Hotel Dili, whilst the taxi was going at high speed. Before collapsing from the injuries she suffered, she told other people who came to assist her that the taxi driver together with other men had tried to rape her. Nobody could see the license plate of the taxi. A few minutes ago I received information that this girl subsequently died in hospital. This is a warning to women to seriously to take care and take the following precautions:
a) Never enter a taxi already occupied by other passengers, and leave the car immediately if the taxi driver takes other passengers on-board during the journey;
b) Do not take taxis with tinted windows, or for the windows to remain down during the journey and leave the taxi if the driver insists on closing them;
c) Do not catch taxis after 6pm and never during night hours;
d) Phone a friend for a ride if you need it, or ask another international for assistance, but do not risk taking taxis alone at night.
