VIVA NEWS - Jakarta, 8 March 2013
Headline - Hercules Marcal Rosario with about 50 of his men
were detained at the Jakarta Police, Friday, March 8, 2013. They were arrested
on suspicion of acts of thuggery and blackmail against contractors Srengseng Shop
in the Kembangan, West Jakarta area.
Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Police, Commissioner
Rikwanto said that Hercules along with his men allegedly racked up hundreds of
millions of dollars. "This is very problematic. They are very disrupting
labor contractors," said Rikwanto.
Rikwanto added that the reason why police officers arrested
Hercules, was because he is the leader of a gang. Police are still only
speculating exactly how much money was paid to Hercules.
Rikwanto urged people who feel threatened or blackmailed to
immediately report what they know to the police. If complainants are too
frightened to come to the police station, they may submit information via
telephone.
However, Marcal Rosario Hercules’ group denied any acts of
thuggery around the shop Kebon Jeruk in West Jakarta. The General Secretary of
the People's Movement New Indonesia (GRIB) Ridho, said allegations against the
strongarmed Hercules by police of intimidation and vandalism are often untrue.
"The people there have a great relationship with
Hercules," claims Ridho.
FIST FIGHTS
Rikwanto added, the police and Hercules men got involved
fist fights during the arrest. He was not sure if there are injuries or not.
"Because it was a situation of aggression, involving fire, destruction,
and aggression against police officers. All directed at the police officers,"
he explained.
After detaining the men, the police seized a number of items
of evidence. Of the dozens of men with Hercules, five were caught carrying
sharp weapons such as machetes and knives. (art)
