Conflict over contracts and land lead to three dead

Two people from Ermera and one from the Sub-district of Natrabora, Manatuto District died in separate clashes over the last week in the country.

Police National Operations Commander, Chief Superintendent Armando Monteiro told journalists that one person was killed in the Sub-district of Natarbora because of a problem with unequal distribution of moneys paid out from a government contract, but he did not explain in details of the incident nor of the contract in question.

Meanwhile, the Commander said that a similar case occurred in Samaleten, Ermera district, on the border with Aileu District died after violence broke out following a land dispute.

This case involved four people originally and ultimately resulted in a physical confrontation where two were killed and two seriously injured and are still in the hospital for their serious injuries.

The police forensics unit has already taken custody of the body of the deceased and investigated the scene of the incidents, but no forensic results have yet been made public.
